ACB Preview: Marvel Legends Eternals

While conventions and big reveals have been rather short as we deal with this pandemic, there are some exciting items on the way. This “Preview” will be part of a series of Previews highlighting upcoming toy sets that we either have already been made aware of (and have orders placed for!), or are just rumored. Some items we do already have a handful of pictures for that had been revealed before conventions and expos were shut down, others will only have some vague references. None of these items, even the ones we already have our orders in for, can be listed for pre-order until we get the green light from the manufacturers and distributors. So this is just a preview of things to come. When these items are available for pre-order, we’ll make another announcement and have the items listed for sale.

Our sixth preview has little more revealed that the name (Marvel Legends Eternals Wave 1), that there will be 7 figures in the set, and that it is anticipated to be released in July or August. I do wonder if this set will be delayed if the movies keep getting pushed back due to COVID-19 (Black Widow wave already was coming out to be in time for the movie premiere, but this one I could easily see get a little delay to the schedule).

So without any real figure news for this one to fall back upon, what do we know about the Eternals, other than that’s one of the next big MCU movies in Phase 4? From the comics perspective, the Eternals were an offshoot of the evolutionary process that created sentient life on Earth, created by Celestials, and intended to be defenders of the Earth. This had them at odds with the Deviants. According to Wikipedia, the Eternals movie will take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, in which the Eternals, who have hidden themselves for thousands of years, must re-unite to protect Earth from their enemies, the Deviants.

Presumably, this Marvel Legends wave, like most of the historic movie waves, will emphasize the characters in the movie. The cast lists 11 main characters (so a good bet that 7 of these will be figures in this wave, and likely the Build-a-Figure, too, unless they do multiple Eternal Waves. If they do that, then three or four figures would likely be movie inspired, and three or four be comic inspired. Only time will tell).

The cast includes:

  • Richard Madden as Ikaris: An Eternal who is all-powerful;
  • Gemma Chan as Sersi: A humankind-loving Eternal (and also someone who was an Avenger in the comics!);
  • Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo: An Eternal who is cosmic-powered;
  • Lauren Ridloff as Makkari: An Eternal who is super-fast;
  • Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos: An Eternal who is an intelligent cosmic-powered inventor;
  • Salma Hayek as Ajak: The wise and spiritual leader of the Eternals;
  • Lia McHugh as Sprite: An Eternal who is eternally young;
  • Don Lee as Gilgamesh: A powerful Eternal (and also someone who was an Avenger in the comics!);
  • Barry Keoghan as Druig: An aloof Eternal;
  • Angelina Jolie as Thena: An Eternal who is a fierce warrior; and
  • Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman (Black Knight): A human warrior who wields a mystical sword (and also someone who was an Avenger in the comics!).

From a Marvel Legends release, looking at this cast, I don’t see a single Deviant listed. Undoubtedly, there will be a bad guy (or two, or three) in the mix, which would further reduce the number of figures available in the wave for this cast above. Which character would you like to most see in Marvel Legends form?

Without any further insight, we’ll leave this one here. As soon as we get more news (which likely will be when we’re allowed to list the wave for sale), we will post a news article with pre-order options. Also, check back later for the next in our Previews Showcase: G.I. Joe Classified Series Wave 2!
