Throughout the various events, we got a sneak peak at some uncanny items that were coming for the X-Men. Some of these items are already out, like Deadpool on the Scooter, Professor Xavier in his Hoverchair, and others will be out in May and are up for pre-order (Marvel Legends X-Men Wave 4, including Beast, Blink, Forge, Gambit, Jubilee, Skullbuster, Weapon X Wolverine, and with a Build-a-Figure of Caliban).
Now, two new waves of X-Men items have been announced for August release, both of which we have placed our initial orders for (check back for updates on when these items can be listed for pre-order). Images are not yet available for all of the items, but we have located most of the images to share with you.
First up: X-Men Vintage (Retro). Like the Avengers Vintage series that came out in 2018, this X-Men set is full of former ToyBiz action figures that have been redesigned as Marvel Legends. The set includes six figures, Cyclops (in his blue and white X-Factor uniform), Dazzler (in her more traditional blue costume), Ice Man, Silver Samurai, Storm, and Wolverine (in his Patch costume from his own Wolverine series). Here is a preview of some of these figures:
Second, the next X-Men Marvel Legends wave is for X-Force, and, it includes the long awaited release of Nightcrawler! In our original All-Things-X article, we previewed the Wendigo Build-a-Figure. Wendigo will be the Build-a-Figure for the X-Force release. In addition to Nightcrawler, this set also includes Boom Boom, Cannonball, Alpha Flight’s Guardian, Mr. Sinister, and Wolverine (presumably in his gray X-Force costume, but no image is available yet for his figure). Here are the images we have been able to locate:
In addition to the long anticipated release of Nightcrawler, this set is particularly enticing. Boom Boom looks great (and from the daughter portion of Daughter & Daddy Reviews: “Yay! Pink outfit and blonde hair! Yay!”). Cannonball also looks unique with his blast. I’ll be curious to see if that is removable and he has accessories of legs, or if he will always have the cannon blast. Either way, it’s nice to have both Boom Boom and Cannonball (now just need Feral and Warpath from the original X-Force lineup. Siryn would be nice, too).
Since this set has Wendigo, and a prior Build-a-Figure had Sasquatch, it’s nice to see Guardian of Alpha Flight be part of this set. It’s a gradual release of the Canadian superheroes, but a welcome one. Plenty of other members who could be released down the road, and hopefully they’ll make it out in the future (Vindicator, Aurora, Northstar, Puck, Shaman, and Snowbird from the core team. Box, Marina, and Talisman would be nice too if going beyond the original / core team).
Going back to the Vintage / Retro set, I am particularly pleased to see Dazzler in her traditional X-Men uniform. Nothing against her Marvel Legends release in her Disco outfit, but when I think of Dazzler, this is the outfit I think of. Cyclops in his X-Factor uniform makes me wonder if future releases will have the other original X-Men in their X-Factor uniforms (maybe the Ice Man in this release already is!).
