In the toy business, every now and again something comes out significantly later than anticipated. We are always given “projected release months,” with the disclaimer that these are targets subject to change. We had our first taste of this with the Funko Rock Candy Wreck-It Ralph Comfy Princess Tiana. All other princesses had come out on time, but not Tiana. We had pre-orders requiring multiple cases of her, and every month she was delayed, every month we inquired, every month we were told “We expect to get her this month.”
The Tiana release was pretty unique, as she was just not made available for whatever reason. Nobody had her, and the people looking for that piece or to complete their collection had to wait.
This week’s arrival was nowhere near as extreme as Tiana. Originally “projected” as a January 2020 release, we finally got it at the end of May. That’s quite the delay, but still much better than Tiana. Unfortunately, unlike Tiana, I’ve managed to see some of these figures in local stores, but when inquiring as to why we have not gotten ours yet, were informed that the Distributors haven’t gotten their yet. Most pre-orders were cancelled, but we do now finally have them (and while we’d much rather move them to the customers who had pre-ordered them as planned, these pieces look pretty amazing and likely won’t last very long!).
Four figures arrived (one of which – Batman in the Hellbat Armor – is still sold out). Here they are….
Since we got sets scheduled to come out AFTER these (like the Wonder Woman movie, which sold out in pre-orders!) BEFORE these, hopefully the remaining McFarlane DC Collectibles lines will remain on track. We saw the same thing with Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series, when Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Lord Voldemort all came out as scheduled, but Hermione was delayed. We then got both Buckbeak and the Hungarian Horntail on time, but before Hermione was released. So hopefully there will not be delays to the other items we have ordered for the DC Collectibles line.
